At the beginning of 2024, I was commissioned by One World to accompany Besan Zarzar and contribute with photographs to her article on freedom of expression in Dutch schools amid the ongoing war in Palestine. Unfortunately, many teachers struggle to address this subject and often avoid it entirely, sometimes even stopping children from speaking up. During our trip to Amersfoort, I had the chance to meet two inspiring sisters from Syria who remain resilient, actively showing support by attending protests and raising awareness on social media, as well as in their immediate community.
