This reportage was part of an assignment for the long-term workshop New Voices 2, organized by RFG Magazine, an online platform amplifying the voices and stories of newcomers in the Netherlands. I chose to document one of the first protests in Rotterdam in response to the ongoing war in Gaza. I felt compelled to cover this topic due to its urgency and the importance of documenting and archiving the developments surrounding this issue. Shot on film.
At the beginning of 2024, I was commissioned by One World to accompany Besan Zarzar and contribute with photographs to her article on freedom of expression in Dutch schools amid the ongoing war in Palestine. Unfortunately, many teachers struggle to address this subject and often avoid it entirely, sometimes even stopping children from speaking up. During our trip to Amersfoort, I had the chance to meet two inspiring sisters from Syria who remain resilient, actively showing support by attending protests and raising awareness on social media, as well as in their immediate community. This article aims to encourage sensitivity and openness within the educational system to better meet children's needs on such challenging topics. Read the full article here.
